Rag is his father.
Rag made someone pregnant except Rag lived in a village where the boy had to grow up to fight for the army. But Rag didnt want that. So Rag tried to run away with Paw to get him to a different village. But lost track and the were seperated. So the story is just Rag and Paw looking for eachother. Dan goes with them, and saves Paw from near death. Dan and Paw then become like unbreakable, since theyre growing up together.
Meanwhile Rag is looking for Paw, Paw is growing up normally and understanding the world around him. But has gone into thieving since he doesnt have a home.

i was thinking more along the lines of a boy and his dog type thing o-o;
Rag gets a dog
They live for years~
Rag has a kid, Paw
continues on~
Rag dies
Dog becomes sad
Rags dog becomes Paws dog o-o
Yaddayaddablah~

could just mix them both.
