Private Servers

Just wondering how to get up and going on a private server.... ive never tried anything like this before... im going to need help from the ground up. will anyone help me?

Yeah I had that kind of feeling of what that link was going to be too. That, or it was going to be some link to some completely irrelevant picture or some smartass remark. (which was pretty close)
