| Well, I haven't been on the forums in like months (there was that random post in the "Have you done the thing above you" forum) cause of AP testing, debate camp, and forgetfulness. I was pretty sure the forum was like dead, so I didn't bother checking... until alek messaged me on msn. ANYWHO, I'm backkk
SOOOO, what has everyone been doing over the summer/plan on doing?

| I imagined the title was screamed like mushu in mulan. Except he says I LIIIVVEEEEE, so it doesnt' really work out. Blah, holidays are in a week, exams were two weeks ago, you sort of get this idea that being at school doesn't really achieve much. | |

| Hi Kevin, I've missed you! The forums were dead so I didn't think anything of it.
Plans for the summer are work and school, of course! I find time to do dumb things with friends, but that's about it. You?!?!?!?!?!
Actually, I'm dying to hear how everyone is, and what their plans are too...

I love you. I actually wouldn't mind getting back into maple after the patch, but i wouldn't be hardcore into it though like i used to be, just casually play it. I'd only do it if other people did it too. Maybe we could get new people to use to forum... For the summer the only thing I am doing is a wedding in July in Canada and recovering from surgery.

| Whoa! Surgery? o-o Didn't knew about that one.
I appreciate you want to join us though :3
And I think it's better to DL the game right now and patch later rather than DL after the patch. Also its going to be at least 200MB heavier than the one that is right now I think...

| Ehhh, I might join again after the patch, but only if a people play.
I don't have much planned for the rest of summer except SAT prep and fire emblem
EDIT: I actually have an online health class too. It's one of those classes where the required level of bullshitting ability is so high, it actually becomes hard.

| Omar, you can't just throw the word 'surgery' in a paragraph so loosely without expecting us to ask questions and say WTF.
So.... its nice to see Kevin again. SHAME ON YOU FOR DOUBTING OUR ABILITY TO KEEP THE FORUMS ALIVE.
They were alive alright, just, there were days where there was really only one board alive (okay, maybe that was most of them, and it was the Have you Ever board). Actually the forums only recently started to pick back up again.
But furthermore, we still talked on it, it never actually came to a point where no one was talking at all.
Whatever my point is WELCOME BACK KEVIN

| Welcome back Kevin. I've been watching shows like How I met your mother, Better off ted and I'm about to get into Community. Excited. My PS3 no longer exists, so I pretty much just game on the computer again, though due to it's shitness, it's... well, shit. I just hit 6 months with my girlfriend and I turn 18 in 14 days. Still unemployed. That's me, NOW SOMEONE ELSE | |

| Yeaaaa.... about that "don't have much planned over the summer"...
Well.. apparently my mom wants me to make an 800 on the SAT subject tests, and I apparently have to read 10 books to do that (I will read like 2 max), and I just became aware of a 100 question math packet, two books with chapter summaries to do, and I still have the regular SATs coming up.

| I'm sorry, are you planning on going to some IV league school? What's with your parents? To get into a good school it requires a lot of hard work, but especially if you're planning on going to any state school (which are all great schools), you don't have to go all out to get in. Seriously, they force you to waste your adolescence with your head buried in a book, and then they wonder why so many kids now act out in college. It's gross. The worst part is that the baby-boom generation has the fucking audacity to say that we're lazier than they are, when they didn't have to learn even half the stuff we did; and on top of that, if they're yelling at us to sit around all day and read senseless irrelevant information out of a book, or hand us piles and piles of busy-work to scribble on every night, it takes away from us actually doing real work. My ass we're lazier! Fucking middle-aged cunts with an entitled know-it-all attitude about everything.
Sorry for the profanity, but it really pisses me off. I could go on and on, but it's best to leave it there.

| @Kish I LOVE COMMUNITY
@Helen There are so many flaws with the education system its useless getting mad at it, i was talking to kevin earlier about the uselessness of the SATs and how true aptitude can't be gauged by a test that can be beaten by studying books. My parents are starting to get on my back now about choosing the right college path because my brothers brushed off high school and now are paying the price for it. In conclusion, im moving to Switzerland.

| Well, my parents actually do want me to get into an Ivy league school (so do i), and I don't think that baby boomers thing applies in China.... In all seriousness, they probably had to work a lot harder than I did just to land the jobs they have in America, and compared to THEIR parents, they did a hell of a good job.
In that same sense though, they don't really have a good idea about what it's like to be raised here and how much tenacity it takes to actually study and get into these schools (though my level of "too much work" probably pales in comparison to theirs).
@Omar Education is too book smart oriented and not nearly enough street smarts. The only thing SATs really gauge is how much time you're willing to spend studying, which really does nothing for both parties.

| Jeez. I would hate to have parents with such high expectations. Its like you can hardly squeeze time in to just have a life..
I understand that your aiming for an Ivy league school though, and that does take some dedicated work to get in to. I never had the desire to go to a big school.. im fine with just aiming to be a local vet or maybe even a graphics designer if I don't just feel like doing that for a hobby.
I just wouldn't want to live my life... not enjoying it. Unless getting into a good school is something you actually want to do, then you shouldn't be so crammed into it, but since you seem like your actually aiming for it then by all means good luck.
I just personally think the world's expectations are too high. D:

The only thing SATs really gauge is how much time you're willing to spend studying, which really does nothing for both parties. I guess I didn't think about it from a perspective of an immigrant, I was really just thinking of my parents. Anyway, if you are planning on doing the IVY then you're doing the right thing. I really just meant that for kids who's sights aren't set so high, it's pointless to waste your career in high school working like a maniac. And I totally agree that the SATs are complete BS. All standardized tests actually should really be abolished.

| Good luck if you think that's going to happen... in fact they just started this new thing this year where they're putting almost all big tests on computer. I think they're calling it the EOC or Eagle or something.
We can only dream though. People can live their lives fine without all this testing and overachieving crap. People from back in the day are as tough as nails while were sitting inside over-studying and not getting enough sunlight >_>
Then again, what with the constant development of the internet, most of us do that anyway.
Point is... if people back then could carry on with life fine without all the unnecessary paperwork, so could we.

| I think that today, kids are a lot lot lot smarter than kids back in the 60s. Mostly because we all don't do drugs. So there is more competition and the need for testing is greater. I think back then it was pretty obvious who was smart and who wasn't. I know I said i was against testing, but there really is no other realistic way of doing it. I do think they should change the SAT though. I just pray i can make it into Georgia Tech, which is like a walk in the park for people going to kevin's high school. They probably see that school as like an automatic acceptance... | |
