We'll since the forums are dead i figured i should try to get a conversation going. SOO How is school for everyone? Mine started this monday and im already starting to get senioritis. Today was the second day and it felt like i didn't even have a summer. Im so sick of school now and i hate having to think that i have another year after this one. Hopefully you guys don't feel this way though.

PostSubject: Re: School   Wed Aug 17, 2011 4:07 am

Too late, already do.

But its alright. Im looking into going to an online school called Connections Academy, so I would be able to do everything from home and at my own pace. I already did the entire application and birth certificate, immunization crap and what not. Im just waiting for the response back, but in the meantime I still have to go to my original school until that happens. Dylan's doing this as well.. (to no surprise)

But yeah, I feel the exact same way. I seriously have just had enough of school. Not enough to drop out, but enough to want to take things into my own hands and do things for myself. Its the second day of school and I already want to leave.. I really don't think I could last another two years.

I also would love to get a job right now (particularly at Petco) but I seriously just can't. For one, the school matter (which will be fixed when im going to online school) and two, my age. Since im only 16, I could get a job, but good luck trying to find one that would actually take in a 16 year old. I have to be 18 to pretty much do anything, and not only that, but I have no transportation at all what so ever. Parents are too cheap to let me take drivers ed.

Yeah i know what you mean, it really is impossible to get a job at 16 even though "technically" you can. I don't know if Louisiana has chick-fil-a, but basically if you know somebody that works there, you can get a job. I could get a job there if i wanted, but i don't think i will ever want to work fast food. Restaurant maybe, but not fast food.

An online school sounds interesting. But i would probably fail my ap classes if i took them online. We have the option to take certain classes not offered at the school online, so you can like go home early and your work is due at the end of every week.

Well, fuck. We just got an email saying that the online school that we were going to go to is full. The only way we could get in for this year is if someone already in the program opts out of it. :/

Woah, I didn't know you were past senior Larz. o: What kind of college you going to? -coughIjustplanondoingtechcough-

Yeah, we have a few Chick-fil-a's here, and one actually in an easy walkable distance of my house. Chick-fil-a is actually amazing in my opinion. Maybe its just the Chick-fil-a here, but I have never walked into a fast food place with better service. They also have those ingenious ketchup packet designs. Me and Dylan went there a few times, and once they had some rookie worker there so the food serving was a little slow (but practically nothing compared to McDonalds or BK...) and they gave us three brownies plus an extra thing of fries for free. Chick-fil-a= heaven.

But yeah... getting a job at 16 = impossible in this shitty economy unless you have GOOD connections.

Kish if you lied about all of that "working for Pixar" crap on Facebook, im going to kill you.

Sounds like a pretty hard year Alek. My school doesn't have programming, which is something that I would probably have failed before half the year's over. I wanted to take psychology but I didn't really want to take a class that dealt with a lot of writing this year.. I had to repeat two classes so I had room for only two electives, that being painting and computer graphics and they're a little more top-priority than psychology. :/

I don't know how it works for all your schools, but they just changed our scheduling here. Last year and years before this one, we had block scheduling with A and B days, and we had 4 classes each day with each class lasting around two hours or something, and 8 classes total. This year, they decided it would be a fantastic idea to merge everything and cram it all into one day just like middle or elementary school. Its pretty bullshitty if you ask me, because for one we lose an hour so now we only have 7 classes (we lose an elective of freaking course) and each period only lasts about 50 minutes or something. The worse part about it is that for classes that deal with art, its IMPOSSIBLE to get into it in the short time we get especially for something like painting.

Honestly, considering that Louisiana is one of the last 3 or so states on the bottom of the list when it comes to education in the US, you would think that all the crap they're throwing at us has something to do with it. Also considering we're one out the 1% that have a uniform dress code policy and no phone rule. Another new rule they implied this year was that if they see a phone AT ALL during the school day, its taken for the entire year on first offense. -.-

ANGIE THATS EXACTLY WHAT THEY DID IN MY SCHOOL. We had the 4 classes block schedule freshman and sophomore year, but then they decided to change it to a 7 period day which makes the days go super slow. So it went from 32 credits to 28. Which is retarded but i guess some how it makes the school use less money which is all they care about. Ugh i wish they didnt change the damn schedules, the days went by so quickly, this past week was literally the longest week ive had in school. Im taking psych too this year, its pretty interesting. I WILL BE ABLE TO READ YOUR MINDS SOON. And im also taking AP Chem which is going to fuck me in the ass unless i start actually studying. I took programming last year, it was super boring but the teacher was awesome and let us just mess around on the computers for 90 minutes, so you arent missing anything with that.

PostSubject: Re: School   Sun Aug 21, 2011 10:14 pm

The fuck? Did they decide to do that with all/most schools in the US?

Yeah, its absolutely retarded. To be honest though. I actually think it makes the day go by faster somehow, I guess it's because its just a new thing im not used to yet since all the classes are so much shorter and we move around quicker. I doubt that im still going to be saying that during the next few month though, eventually im going to get used to it and its going to get so boring and monotonous. At least with the A and B days, every day was different, and you didn't have to see teachers that you didn't like every day. :/

The art is the worst part. This year is the first year I decide to take an actual painting class (as opposed to the completely different Art I and Art II classes) and I don't even get to fully enjoy it as I thought I would. 50 minutes IS NOT NEARLY enough time to get into painting something, and that's not even counting cleaning up and crap which can take 15 minutes and possible teacher lectures and talking. Same concept for computer graphics...

@Omar and Ange: Yeaaa.... at least you guys can choose some electives, I still need to do 30 hrs of social service (already have 60 @-@) I'm gonna have to do 30 hr per month, which only lets me choose electives at the start of the next semester D: SO yeah... I hate it @-@

@Larz: Enderman came from Slenderman, pal. SUCK IT! Also:

Alek: HEY ENDERMAN I CHALLENGE YOU TO A STARING CONTEST!
Enderman: Staring contest? Challenge accepted.
Alek: What have I just done....?

Omar, I got a 1 on the AP chem exam, but I got 4s and 5s on all the others I took. In my class only one person got above a 2, and nationwide something like 75% of all students that took that exam got 3s and below, which won't count at most schools for credit. I don't know if collegeboard fixed how ridiculously demanding that class is, but if they haven't, and it's not too late, I seriously suggest dropping it. Also, I feel you on the senioritis thing. Especially when you're taking APs, sometimes it feels like all you do is go to school, come home, do homework, go to bed, wake up, repeat. I've said it before and I'll say it again, just don't take high school too seriously, because it matters a lot less than you're led to believe. Junior year is the worst year though, so do what you can to stay sane.

Chickfila is fucking awesome, and would be awesome to work there solely because they're not open on Sundays. As for other jobs, even at 16 it's more than possible to get a job as long as you have weekend availability. I work at Starbucks and we hire 16 year olds on a regular basis as long as they can do weekends. When I worked at Toys R Us, there were a lot of 16 year olds too. As long as you're to be willing to work 20+ hours it's not so hard getting any job in retail/service, at least that's the case here in DC area/VA. In fact, I would say a lot of establishments are desperate for workers, but find it hard to find people willing to work weekends and enough hours.

Lars, if you're talking about VCU as in Virginia Commonwealth University, just saying, you're an hour to two away from me. Although FUCK, I don't know why anyone would actually come to Virginia to study. As we speak I'm looking for a way out.

ALEKKKKK, SENIOR YEAR. Try not to spend too much time studying and enjoy it. =]

I started school on Monday, so now I'm working and going to school both full time. I have nearly no free time. I really hate Virginia, and I'm going to try and transfer out of state in a year. I miss you guys and I think of you often, hoping you're all doing well.

Sweet, where do you plan on going when you leave Virginia? I know you must be extremely crammed with work and school but come back and post on the forums more often! We miss you D: And just to throw in, I think of everyone on here sometimes too. Omar and Kevin, if it weren't for you, I would have missed Georgia on the State Map test I just took yesterday. Sad, I know.

I really think Virginia works a little differently than our states, because I rarely see anyone younger than 18 working at a big place like Toys R Us or Starbucks. (except maybe the occasional black female Wal-mart worker who type with their freakishly long painted fingernails)

School for me: Im starting to crack down a little more on homework and actually paying attention in class, mostly because if I fail a single thing, I don't get to be a senior next year. -cough- I sorta failed the grade last year and im stuck being a sophomore again, BUUUTTTT, if I pass EVERYTHING this year, I get to skip junior year and go straight to senior next year because I'll have enough credits. Im pretty much half junior and half sophomore, because im taking some junior classes and some sophomore. The school counselors even told me that the only thing that makes the difference is the number on my ID card and my homeroom. (so, with that, I pretty much just declare this as my Junior year)

Also, what's so bad about Virginia? I never really hear anything bad about it, it just seems like one of those states that seems to never have any problems.

At my place you can't really be in 2 years at the same time. In fact, if you fail a year, you are not allowed to enter the school again (works on other schools though) So yeah... Alek is on Senior, liking my math class cuz it's awesome and we learnt binary system and st00f :3

Well, if you can't get a job in HS it's probably for the best. Having a job at 16 sucks.

Yeah, Angie just hang in there. Just think, one day you'll be able to work and not have to go to school and it's going to be awesome. That's the dream, right? Go to work, come home, relax. I hate that I come home from school and work and guess what, I still have homework to do. It's bullshit.

I hate Virginia because I don't belong here at all. Everyone here comes from money, and they have this snobby elitist attitude that I don't identify with. It's also really expensive to live here, and I'm on my own now. An apartment here minimum one bedroom usually goes for $1200/month here, but in places like Ohio or North Carolina they only go for $300. My friends are equally as unhappy and want to get out with me. We're leaning towards Chicago, but being totally honest anywhere that's not Virginia would be the best thing ever. I have a really good GPA so I know I can get scholarships to afford out of state. I'm 21 soon too so hopefully I can get into bartending and make way more money that way.

I miss you guys too. I have two online classes, so I'll be the interwebs more often than I have the past few months, so I'll be on more.
